Transportation Department continues to look for new bus drivers

The Transportation Department plans to continue hiring new bus drivers, according to Ron Farrand, director of facilities and transportation. According to Farrand, although the bus driver shortage has been resolved, the department continues to train new bus drivers due to normal fluctuations in bus driver numbers.

“We are currently in pretty good shape for drivers,” Farrand said. “However, we continue to hire as we are experiencing our usual turnover of drivers.”

Senior Jeremy Rolsky said that he could see potential negative impacts on students from the bus driver shortage, and is glad that the issue has been addressed.

“I could see the shortage forcing students to cram onto buses and that would be more uncomfortable,” Rolsky said. “It’s good that it’s being fixed so this hopefully doesn’t happen (again).”
