On Sept. 28, the men’s soccer team will be playing Evansville Memorial at 3:00 p.m. at Evansville Memorial. Evansville Memorial currently ranks third in the state while Carmel ranks fifth.

“Of all the high school soccer programs in Indiana, they’re probably the most storied program. They’ve won more state champions than any other else,” Head Coach Shane Schmidt said.

Evansville Memorial has won 16 state titles in soccer alone, while Carmel has won four. Carmel has not won a state title since 2006.

After losing to Cathedral, a school ranked outside the top 20, the Carmel Greyhounds are ready to redeem themselves at the Evansville Memorial game.

“I think that the one thing we can take away from this game is when we have opportunities to finish the ball, we should take advantage of those opportunities,” Schmidt said. “We led Cathedral in every statistical category that you can have as far as corner kicks and shots and everything else.”

Evan Morris, varsity player and senior, agrees. “I think that they came out with more intensity than we did. I think we need to match that intensity and score quick,” he said.

According to Schmidt, the Evansville Memorial game should be interesting and competitive. He said, “It’s going to be a good measuring stick to see where we are getting ready to head into the state tournament.”

Senior night was held before the Cathedral game. The following seniors were recognized: Michael Cheesman, Eric Dougal, Landon Dungo, Nicky Jason, David Liang, Evan Morris, Lucas Rowe, Trevor Sarsfield, Matthew O’Scanal, Ian Seal, Murat Toksoy and Kyle Van De Laarschot.
