    Food on First Friday

    Food+on+First+Friday

First Friday is essentially an unofficial holiday in Indianapolis. It started as the night that nearly every art gallery holds their monthly art openings, featuring some amazing pieces of art from up-and-coming, and often very underground artists. However, in recent years, the event has evolved to encompass pop up shops, a slew of live music events and parties, and best of all, a night to go out and find your next favorite food destinations. The chief hub of Friday Friday is in Fountain Square, where modern art galleries and restaurants mingle along Virginia Avenue. And in recent years, the scene has only heated up. Below are my top 3 Fletcher Place/Fountain Square restaurants that you really need to check out before heading to the galleries this Friday.

    Bluebeard, 653 Virginia Avenue

Naptown’s best right here, check out the Bread plate or the Chips and Dip, as well as any combination of the fresh and creative dishes curated daily by the chef. Sit inside or outside at the communal tables, and just know that you are eating at one of the best restaurants nationwide.

After a recent move into a vastly larger and more modern space, creative-asian mainstay Rook has only improved upon its already esteemed past. Definitely don’t forget to order the Oxtail Dumplings, Fried Chicken Bun, Coconut Curry Ramen or Galbi Rice Bowl, all of which pack a powerful punch of flavor, spice and texture.

This well-known Indianapolis food truck has parked itself in Fletcher Place and established its first brick-and-mortar shop in Rook’s old space. The restaurant puts a modern spin on classic Indian food, resulting in undeniably delicious mashups, like the unbelievable Tandoori Tacos.

Also, check out the delicious Rocket 88 Donuts, 874 Virginia Avenue, for some truly stunning desserts.

Enjoy all the eats and the arts!
