Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How can I get a contract?
A: Use Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the 2009-2010 ad contract (just click on the link HERE). You also may call (317) 846-7721, Extension 7143 and ask for a contract to be mailed or faxed to you.

Q: Will I see my ad before it runs?
A: Yes. Ad proofs will be faxed, e-mailed or dropped off to your business for your approval before the ad is printed.

Q. When will I be billed for my advertisement?
A: Invoices and tearsheets are mailed the day the issue with your ad runs.

Q: Can I send my ad to you as e-mail?
A: Yes. Send e-mail to . The ad staff uses Adobe InDesign and Photoshop to create ads, so the best formats are EPS, JPEG or PDF files.

Q: Does the HiLite accept inserts as advertisements?

A: No. Because of the size of our circulation and because of administrative concerns, our printing schedule does not allow for inserts.

Q: What is your circulation?
A: The newspaper is distributed to all 4,500 Carmel High School students and its 300 faculty and staff. Other papers are dropped off at various locations around the Carmel community or sent to several hundred subscribers via mail.

Q: How often is the newspaper published?
A: About once per month, generally toward the end of the month.

Q: When is the deadline for submitting my ad?
A: All deadlines are listed on the contract. The signed contract is due on these dates. You will then work with an ad sales representative to determine the deadline for the materials for your individual ad.

Q: What are the different ways that I can send advertisement information?
A: You may submit an actual hard copy of the ad, e-mail the ad as a PDF, JPEG or EPS file, or have the student staff design your ad.

Q: In what format should it be sent as an email?
A: Send the ad as an EPS, JPEG or PDF to .

Q: Who should I contact if I have any questions or comments?
A: Please email us at or call 846-7721, Extension 7143.

Q: Can I request which page my ad is on?
A: The ad staff will make every effort to run your ad on the page or section requested; the earlier the ad is contracted, the better chance of placement in a specific location.

Q: Can I run spot or full color in my ad?
A: Yes. Starting in 2009-10, we plan to offer full color for all advertisements.

Q: Does the HiLite accept political advertising?
A. Yes. Political ads must be prepaid, however. Because of the size of the CHS student body, many candidates for public office, in both the primary and general election, reach a large block of first-time voters by advertising in the HiLite.

Q: When is the best time to advertise for prom?
A: The Carmel High School prom takes place in May, so the two issues prior to the prom would be the ones in which to place prom advertising.
