House of Representatives to have two new events for Dance Marathon

by Beats

House will have two new events this year to raise money for Dance Marathon. The first of these events is a pottery night on Dec. 4 and the second event is Smoothie Smashdown, which will take place in the freshman cafeteria on Dec. 11.

According to speaker of the House David Chiang, the pottery night is restricted to students who have taken Ceramics 2 or above. “These students can come out and have a throw-a-thon,” Chiang said. “We are going to be making pots, we will have an auction second semester and all the money will go to Riley Hospital.”

House sponsor Sarah Wolff said that Brickyard Clay Company in Indianapolis is donating all the clay for the event. “They know Riley Hospital because it’s local as well,” Wolff said. “We’re going to throw pots on the potter’s wheel for 12 hours straight and then we’re going to auction them off after we paint them and fire them in the kiln.”

Smoothie Smashdown, the second of these events, is another House original. “We’re going to have teams of two make their smoothies and have people come in to try their samples and determine who has the best smoothie,” Chiang said. “As of right now, admission is $5 for a team and $1 to attend.”

“When you come you get a ballot at the door and you get to taste test all the smoothies and vote on different categories – healthiest, best tasting, most creative,” Wolff said. “The winners of the categories at the end of the event will be announced based on the voting, and those people will win Smoothie King gift cards.” By David Zheng <dzheng@hilite.org>
