Both the HiLite newspaper and the Pinnacle yearbook staffs received Best of Show awards at the National High School Journalism Convention hosted in Anaheim, CA, by the National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) and the Journalism Education Association (JEA).

The HiLite received eighth place in the newsmagazine category, and the topically-based Acumen earned seventh place in the newspaper special edition category. The Pinnacle placed seventh among yearbooks of 325+ pages. Only publications with representatives at the convention were eligible to participate in the Best of Show competition. According to NSPA executive director Logan Aimone, there were 3,900 students in attendance.

The spring convention will conclude on April 17, and the fall convention will take place in Minneapolis from Nov. 17 to 20.
