Carmel Connects Club to switch operating systems to Windows 7

Carmel Connects Club members expect a change in software as they receive more modern computers for re-purposing. Club members plan to switch from the Windows XP program to the updated Windows 7 operating system according to Margret Winans, Carmel Connects Club sponsor.

Because the  computers that club members currently receive cannot handle Windows 7, members must wait for a delivery of updated computers to start using this system according to Levi Kiser, club president and senior.

Carmel Connects Club members meet every Monday morning in Room F104 to re-purpose and re-image computers for Net Literacy, an organization that promotes computer awareness. During the next Carmel Connects Club meeting members will begin installing Windows 7 rather than Windows XP.

“Before we only used Windows XP because the old computers weren’t compatible with this new system, but now as we receive newer models we get to use more up-to-date technology,” Kiser said.

Kiser believes this change in system will have some effect on their processing speed.

“It will take a little more time to image. There is a little bit more to Windows 7,” Winans said.
