Hip Hop Club, formerly known as the Breakdancing Club, has added a new element to the club, where students can learn how to rap, according to Mason Yao, Hip Hop Club officer and senior. Junior Shajit Kohli is the head of this new rap subdivision. Hip Hop Club meets every Tuesday after school until 5 p.m. in the main lobby near the Dale E. Graham Auditorium.
“We’re adding a rap section to the club to encompass all aspects of hip-hop culture,” Yao said. “Everyone who’s interested can learn how to rap or freestyle better.”
Previously, Hip Hop Club held small rap circles, after then deciding to add a new rap segment entirely. According to Kohli, this new addition has increased the membership of the club.
“I feel like with rapping, you have to have a lot of confidence,” Kohli said. “This rap section helps people build up their confidence.”
Sponsor Lacey Grabek said she is excited about the latest addition to the club. “I think this (rap section) is a great way to make our club more known while also gaining new insights and perspectives,” Grabek said. “I truly feel like our club is growing week to week.”
Kohli said, “We already have a bunch of people here with a lot of talent, I have no doubt that this section will grow like the rest of the club.”
