Freshman Ziang Ke died the morning of Jan. 7. According to Principal John Williams, he fell in his neighborhood and was transported to Clarian North Medical Center where he died soon after.
Leslie Brown was Ke’s counselor. On the afternoon of Ke’s death, she discussed the loss with the counseling intern Sheila Keller. “He was a great kid,” Brown said. “He was trying to find his way in Carmel High School.”
Both Brown and Keller said they were shocked. “(As a school) we’ve lost a member of our family,” Brown said.
Commenting on how the school deals with loss like this, Williams said, “We let people know, try to be as open as we can, and we try to react to the needs. Sometimes those needs are great.”
Williams said counselors will be available to anyone who needs it. “If you need us, we’re going to be here,” Williams said.
