HiLite students earn Gold Circle Awards from CSPA

Several members of Carmel High School’s HiLite newspaper staff earned awards in the annual Gold Circle Awards program sponsored by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA). According to the CSPA’s Web site, the annual competition for individual achievement by student writers, editors, designers and photographers attracted 12,037 entries from colleges, universities and secondary schools throughout the United States.

Of those entries, only 1,831 received either a First, Second, Third Place or Certificate of Merit Award during the 2009 competition. These entries came from 451 publications from the United States, Canada and international schools following the American plan of education.

Many new awards categories were added in the most sweeping revision of this competition since it began in 1984. Among the changes were new categories for online media.

Entries were accepted from student newspapers, magazines, yearbooks and videos either originally printed or broadcast from November 2, 2007 through November 1, 2008. The full list of winners can be found at the CSPA’s Web site, http://tinyurl.com/calatw.
