Vocational building trades class frames basement walls

February 26, 2010

The vocational building trade class continues work on the basement. The class has begun framing the walls but still has another three weeks work. John Coghlan, the vocational building trade teacher, said the class will finish framing, electrical, insulation and drywall before the end of the semester. Then, the homeowners will have to hire someone else to complete the job.

The design for the basement was a collection of ideas of the students and Coghlan’s own ideas. He then presented multiple design options to the homeowners who then pick and chose different parts of each one to come up with the final design.

Coghlan thinks his students had fun coming up with designs and now actually getting to work on the basement.

“I think they’ve had fun and have something we can call our own,” Coghlan said.

The vocational building trade class still has to finish up work at the Flowing Well Park. Coghlan said the class might go back next week if the weather gets better but is glad the class has the basement to work on.

Coghlan said, “If it rains, we will be able to work on the basement.” By Julie Kippenbrock <jkippenbrock@hilite.org>
