C-SPAN representatives will visit this school Tuesday, Sept. 9 from 3:30-4:30 pm in the northwest parking lot for some teacher workshops. These workshops are planned for the government and social studies teachers, along with the media specialists, librarians and tech coordinators who have already pre-registered.
The C-SPAN representatives will teach the faculty how to use C-SPAN and its classroom’s free internet resources in order to integrate politics in the classroom and make it interactive for students. Teachers attending will receive free teacher resources and lessons with downloadable video clips and podcasts, along with a tour of C-SPAN’s campaign 2008 bus and will get to follow the 2008 presidential races between the Republicans and Democrats.
“Mainly, the thing that (C-SPAN) is offering in the teacher workshops is to give (teachers) an advantage by integrating (C-SPAN’s) resources into their classrooms,” Hal Espey, broadcasting instructor and CHTV advisor, said.
Espey said that by having C-SPAN here, it could help the communications department by allowing them footage to the 2008 Republican and Democratic conventions, along with other videos from the C-SPAN video archive.
“Their video archives are pretty impressive because we can download videos that are not copyrighted,” Espey said. “In the future, this could be very useful.”
