The 3 weirdest accessories

The+3+weirdest+accessories

Watches, jewelry, bags, glasses. Items that come to mind when you hear the word accessories. The list of these items doesn’t change that much, and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Accessories are meant to compliment an outfit or an aesthetic, so throwing something completely random in there, something that doesn’t pertain to style, fashion, or even common sense at all, wouldn’t make any sense. Right?

…Right?

Well, according to many designers, the answer to that question is a resounding “wrong.” Every once in a while, there comes a seemingly nonsensical accessory that makes you turn your head and maybe give a quizzical look or two. Today, we’re taking a look at 3of the weirdest.

1. GILAPPLE,  Undercover

This one doesn’t appear so weird until you take into account its utter simplicity. It’s an apple. With a light. Keep in mind that the fashion label Undercover is responsible for this glorious creation. Undercover, one of the most highly esteemed Japanese design houses, famous for its poignant social commentary and revolutionary reinterpretations of keystone styles, is responsible for making what is quite literally a flashlight shaped like an apple. This isn’t a one time thing either. They’ve even done collaborations with the likes of Hello Kitty and Marc Jacobs. Never have apple-shaped flashlights looked so fashionable.

2. Forget Me Knot, Sruli Recht

For those squeamish, you might want to turn away now. Avant-garde designer Sruli Recht is known for pushing the boundaries of fashion, and this piece is no exception. The leather-like material that surrounds the outside of this 24 karat gold ring is actually his own skin! He had a small section of his skin removed from his abdomen through plastic surgery, bathed it with the chemical bath that typically treats leathers, wrapped it around a ring, and voila!

3. Raft, Supreme

The New York based skate-fashion mainstay Supreme is known for its wacky accessories. Some notable examples include water guns, baseball bats, and boxing gloves, which help to provide a welcome distraction from the apparel it is known for. However, one of the weirdest accessories comes in the form of an inflatable raft. A fully fledged, 60 by 49 inch raft. If Supreme had it’s beginnings as a surf company, the reasoning behind the raft would be easier to see. “Oh, maybe this is a creative harkening back to their maritime roots!” But no, it had its beginnings on Manhattan’s solid ground. It’s first supporters skated over asphalt, they didn’t surf over water. Therefore, the meaning behind the raft can trace itself back to one, revolutionary phrase: “Why not?”
