The women’s soccer team lost on Oct. 16 in the Sectional semi-final. Noblesville won in a 0-0 tie game after two overtimes with a penalty kick tie-breaker. Both teams were co-ranked number one, but this game ends Carmel’s tournament play. The team finishes the season with a record of 15-1-3.
“I have won many games and lost a few in my coaching career, but none can cause quite the same emotions as exiting the tournament without losing. This is the second time I have had a team stopped by the PK tiebreaker while I have also had teams advance twice in the past,” coach Frank Dixon said via e-mail. “I could win them all but would still not be a fan of this method of advancement but I also understand that the game cannot continue to be played until a true winner is determined. While I am very happy with the way we played, I am also disappointed that our season is over. As is the case every year, my biggest regret is that tonight ends the high school soccer careers of some great seniors.”
