The Women’s softball team is about ready to enter the post-season tournament after another successful season. The Hounds, who ended their regular season with a record of 22-2, are scheduled to play the Westfield Shamrocks after a bye in the first round of the Sectional tournament on Tues. May 24.
Captain and senior Kelsi Jones said she is happy with their draw for the Sectional tournament. She said, “(Going into the Sectional tournament) We just need to take one game at a time, focus on beating Westfield, and we just need to play our best to beat them.”
Head Coach Emily Good said she has high hopes for the Hounds in the upcoming tournament. Good said the team has changed a lot over the course of the season and that she thinks this will help them go far in the Sectional tournament. She said, “Our confidence has grown and we are making better decisions.”
Jones said as captain she feels she needs to make sure the team does lose sight of their number one goal: to win the tournament by taking one game at a time. She said, “(My job is) just making sure everyone stays focused on the goal and making sure nobody gets ahead of themselves or is thinking too far into the future.”
Good also said she thinks that if the team can focus on each game and stay mentally focus, they will be able to make it past their upcoming games.
Good said, “This is always a highly competitive sectional. As of today, Carmel is ranked #1, Noblesville is ranked #2 and HSE is ranked #6 in the State. We are always pushing to play our best at this point in our season and look forward to the opportunity to play at a level that I know we are capable of.”
