HiLite staff members achieve national recognition

Several HiLite staff members were recently named national High School Communications Competition winners from the National Federation of Press Women. Students’ work was entered for the national competition after winning first place at the state level with the Woman’s Press Club of Indiana.

Junior Laura Peng won first place for her page design, “The End of Books.” Junior Yameen Hameed won second place for his page design “Model Student”, and senior Sara Rogers  won second place for her column “Believing in allegiance: Why to honor every veteran this year.” Senior Marianna Cooper won third place for her video news story “Small Business on Main Street,” and junior Henry Zhu won third place for his feature story “Home Sweet Home.”

The High School Communications Competition, endorsed by the National Association of Secondary School Principals, is an annual competition that encourages high school student journalists and advisors to challenge themselves to achieve journalistic excellence.
