Men’s basketball looking forward to new season

By Ryan Duffy
The men’s varsity basketball team kicks off the season next Wednesday. Their first game is at home against the defending state champion Brownsburg Bulldogs. The game will start at 7:30 p.m.
Head Coach Mark Galloway, who is in his sixth season with the basketball program, says he thinks the team has great potential to succeed this season.

“Every season is different and every team is different. I feel this team has the ability to have some success,” Galloway said.
Scott Laskowski, power forward and junior, said he is also optimistic about the team’s potential this year. “The team last year was great so it’s going to be tough to match a team that went 22-3, but we have some great seniors back and I feel we can definitely compete with the best teams in the state. As far as the comparison to last year’s team, we might be lacking some experience, but when we get into the season I think we will surprise a lot of people,” Laskowski said.
Many of the players from last years team, many of whom were the team leaders, have graduated, such as Stuart Dougglas ’08, Daniel Moore ’08 and Jordan Brewer ’08. Galloway said he thinks the team can fill these leadership roles and create some chemistry between these new varsity players.
I think our players this year are working hard to develop the chemistry that we need to be successful. We will need to identify and define some roles this season, but more importantly our players will need to accept those roles. Our success will be a reflection of our teamwork,” Galloway said.
So with a new Greyhound lineup on the court, will they have gained enough chemistry to take on the defending State champions? The Greyhounds lost in the Regional final to the Bulldogs last season and said they are really hoping to get their revenge. “We know that they are a great team and they obviously had a great season last year. We aren’t intimidated by them because they had a great season last year and we are just going to go out and give it our all and leave everything on the floor and hope that we can come out with a win,” Laskowski said

Galloway also says that he thinks the team can beat Brownsburg. He said, “The Brownsburg Bulldogs are the defending State champs. They will be just as different as we are as a team. The intensity level will be high – just like all of our games. We know we must play good team defense and share the basketball on offense. If we rebound and make free throws we will be just fine.”
