Team closes successful season, begins building for next season

By: Stephanie Walstrom <[email protected]>

The women’s junior varsity soccer team closed its nearly undefeated season last Saturday with a win over Cathedral. The team will now cheer on the varsity team on its journey to State.

The JV team boasts an impressive 14-0-1 record, the only non-win being a tie against Sacred Heart Academy on Sept. 29. “I think we did really well, and I always thought we’d end up where we did,” Taylor Fisher, JV soccer player and sophomore, said. “We won most of our games, which is really good. The season went by really fast, and it was fun.”

Now the team is looking ahead to next year’s JV and varsity seasons. Though Fisher said she enjoyed playing soccer for Carmel the past two seasons, she does not plan on trying out as a junior because it was too much combined with her orchestra commitments.

Fisher also said she believes any of the girls currently on her junior varsity team have a chance to make varsity. Head Coach Julie Faas, who plans her JV practices so that much of the time is spent scrimmaging the varsity, said she does this so “they see that with hard work they have a chance to play varsity.”
