CHS welcomes new assistant principal, adjusts to administrative changes

CHS has experienced a number of administrative changes since former assistant principal Ronda Eshleman left for the Online Academy in September. The school recently welcomed Brad Sever, previously a social studies teacher at Creekside Middle School, to replace current assistant principal of curriculum Brooke Weekes in the Activities Office.

In addition, Weekes and assistant principal Doug Bird will now split the responsibility to oversee curriculum, according to Principal John Williams. Weekes will supervise the humanities and fine arts, while Bird will administer the math and science departments.

Williams said, “With the breadth of our curriculum, from remedial labs to multivariable calculus, to ask one person to oversee all of that is not a reasonable request or expectation. This will give Ms. Weekes a chance to focus in on those humanities courses and Mr. Bird to focus in on more of the technology and science courses.”

Williams said Sever will contribute an experienced background in education to aid Bird and Weekes in this division.

“With this split between the two different areas, Mr. Sever will work with both folks in those areas,” Williams said. “He will serve the same role that Ms. Weekes (did) and work with them on curriculum and professional development.”

Sever said he is eager to learn about the new programs and initiatives at CHS.

“Right now, I’m working on the Program of Studies,” Sever said. “I’m looking to ensure that our classes align with the criteria set by the Department of Education. I’m also learning the Gradual Release of Responsibility Model and just helping out Ms. Weekes and Mr. Bird as much as possible.”

Williams said he views the recent changes in a positive light.

“We’re constantly looking at how we do things and what we can do differently,” he said. “I think (the changes) will work out for the better.”
