CCPL to host Dine on a Dime Feb. 29

The Carmel Clay Public Library (CCPL) will host Dine on a Dime on Feb. 29 from anytime after school to 5 p.m. in the program room. At the event, students will learn to save money by making their own cupcakes instead of buying them ready-made in a store or restaurant. This event was created in response to a grant from an organization called the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA).

Hope Baugh, Young Adult services manager, said this event will positively impact teens.

“Most teens I know wish they had more spending money, and this program will help with that. However, even independently wealthy teens will have fun making cupcakes or whatever,” Baugh said via email. “You won’t have to pay anything, you don’t have to sign up ahead of time, you don’t have to be good at making things and it will be fun.”

Freshman Rob Holden, member of the CCPL’s Teen Library Council, said he agrees with Baugh.

“I honestly think that some teens don’t understand how expensive it is to eat out at some restaurants when the food is so simple to make at home for less money,” Holden said.
