Senior Class officers soon to sell second round of hoodies, shirts

By: Jade Luo <[email protected]>

Senior Class officers are planning to sell a second round of Senior Class spirit sweatshirts before the end of first semester. The zip-up hooded sweatshirts, which were suggested by class treasurer Brianne White, became so popular after the first round of sales that many seniors demanded for them to be sold again. The sweatshirts will cost $18, and proceeds will go to the Senior Class.

Vice president Kathleen LaMagna said that there has been some confusion concerning Senior Class spirit wear this year. She said, “We were approached during the summer by the PTO. They said that the PTO will create t-shirts to sell for the Class of ’08 at the beginning of the school year. We didn’t have a choice.”

However, according to LaMagna, the Senior Class officers did get to create Homecoming shirts for the whole student body. After a suggestion from White, the class officers also went on to design their own sweatshirts to sell. The sweatshirts were sold during the first six weeks and became incredibly popular.

The money to be made from the Homecoming shirts, the sweatshirts and the PTO class shirts will go to the Senior Class, either directly or indirectly. Most of the proceeds will go to the Senior Class budget for graduation and the class gift. A smaller portion of the money will go to Project Graduation, which is a PTO-planned tradition for the seniors.

“(Project Graduation) is the last time the seniors are all together. There are usually raffles for things that are going to help (the seniors) in college,” LaMagna said. According to LaMagna, the event is usually held 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. after graduation.

Other than selling spirit wear, the class officers are hoping to get seniors spirited for the Sectional today. “The football Sectional is a big deal. (The class officers) are trying to get seniors involved and excited for the game. We are going to show support for the team,” LaMagna said. “We’re focused on lifting the morale of our class.”

Class sponsor Terri Edwards said she is proud of the leadership in the Senior Class officers. “(The class officers) are very independently motivated. They are self-sufficient and very responsible,” she said. “(I love) working with this group of kids and watching them grow into adults.”
