The Spanish Club is volunteering at a coat drive tonight and then again tomorrow morning at Carmel United Methodist Church.
Members will help translate Spanish and English between other volunteers and Spanish-speaking families looking to receive coats.
The idea to volunteer at the church came from club president and junior Sydney Miller. She said, “I did it last year and it was a really good volunteer experience. This year is Spanish Club’s first year volunteering there as a club.”
Also, the club officers are planning a new event during which members will get together at an eatery and speak only Spanish while eating Spanish dishes, such as churros, salsa, and hot chocolate.
Kay Vazquez, club sponsor and Spanish teacher, said, “We’re going to see what it’s like to speak completely in Spanish. Maybe we can do a lot better than we think.” By Jennifer Siriwardane
