This song sounds familiar…

I want to start off by saying thanks to all of my readers! My last post currently has over 80 views, and that number increases every time I check. I don’t really know exactly how many my others have because the website was changed and everything reset, but I’m glad to know so many of you enjoy spending some time in my head for a little bit each week. I wish I had more time to write or more stuff to write about than I can think of. Today, though, is all about the radio.

First of all, there is so much time wasted not playing music on the radio. Some of the talk shows are okay, but the millions of commercials need to go. Your overplayed ads make me want to buy diamonds from everywhere except Shane Company, I don’t care how shiny your diamonds are. You’d think any song would be better than a dumb commercial, but this, unfortunately, is not the case. Dhruti touched on this in an old post about the radio. Basically the only good thing is that if you turn on a station towards the end of a song, you can switch to another station to hear the whole thing again. It’s just one step in this vicious brainwashing cycle. The way I see it, radio stations have this influence on all of us. It would probably be easier to explain with a personal experience.

The first time I heard “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” by Taylor Swift, I was like what is this? I didn’t like how she talks through half of it and how, like so many songs, she repeats the same phrase for three and a half minutes. Then I saw the music video, I was like what is going on? After hearing it more than once almost every day for a couple weeks, it’s stuck in my head on a daily basis, and I actually like it. I never thought that would happen. Like ever. And for some reason this past week I hadn’t heard it for a few days, so when it came on today I was so excited. Until I realized the radio is controlling my mind. Pretty soon, we’ll all be brainwashed to madness.

Now, I want to keep the little sanity I have, so I’ve asked some of my friends to burn me a CD of random music for me to listen to in the car. Some of them don’t think I’m serious, and to them I say, “Guys! It’s in my blog so it must be true. Believe me now?”. Some of them just pretend to have more important things than me in their lives. Whatever. So, I’m extending the request to the 80ish of you reading this right now. I honestly don’t care if I know you personally or not, I just can’t go on that much longer like this. Even Pandora plays a lot of the same songs. Clearly, the world of music hates me. But I’m counting on the fact that most of you don’t. At least I hope so.

Until next time,

Olivia
