Cru (formerly Student Venture) and Lifelines will be sponsoring a dodgeball event Nov. 9 (Friday) from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the fieldhouse. The cost per player is $2 or two canned goods. Proceeds will go towards the Brett Finbloom Lifeline Scholarship while canned goods will go to a local food bank.
Forms for teams of up to 10 players can be picked up in the activities office and are due by Thursday along with participation fees. According to Kim Tenbrink, Cru sponsor and physical education chairperson, students who missed the deadline can still pay at the door but will lose the opportunity of choosing a team.
There are no particular prerequisites to join, but the event is mainly geared towards high school students. However, TenBrink said that this year staff members will also be participating.
“If a teacher is on the team and catches the ball, all those on that team who are out, may come back in,” TenBrink said, in an email.
Adult referees will judge the event, and “real” dodgeballs (made of foam with a plastic covering) will be used.
Tenbrink said, “Tons of kids come out. Usually there’s pizza at the end—pizza and water. Kids have a great time. It’s a safe place to be on a Friday night. And we had a really good turnout (in previous years).”
