Instead of having an after-school meeting for the month of December, the Spanish Club will celebrate Las Posadas, a traditional Mexican custom that celebrates Christmas.

The Spanish Club will celebrate the Las Posadas holiday coming up on Dec. 9 at the Eiteljorg Museum in Indianapolis.

During the celebration, actors re-enact Mary and Joseph searching for a place to stay where Jesus could be born.

Kay Vazquez, club sponsor and Spanish teacher, said, “It’s a cultural benefit for members just to see this custom as it is celebrated in Mexico.”

As for Sydney Miller, club president and junior, she is looking forward to the celebration.

She said, “It’s a Mexican custom that people aren’t very familiar with, so it exposes them to a more realistic culture.

According to her, “It’s a part of the culture that’s not as well known, like the Day of the Dead for example.”
