According to Tricia Reynolds, community relations coordinator for CCS, teacher of the year nominations will be open from Feb. 21 to March 4.
Principal John Williams said the teacher of the year nominations are held by a committee in CCS.
“It’s a program our district has where they put together a committee, take nominations, review those nominations and they select a Carmel Clay School, not Carmel High School necessarily, the whole district, teacher of the year and that teacher then is entered into the state teacher of the year competition,” Williams said.
The CCS teacher of the year for 2011-2012 was Kelly Meyer, second grade teacher at Mohawk Trails Elementary School.
According to Williams, he thinks the teacher of the year nominations are worthwhile.
“There’s an Indiana state teacher of the year competition and we want to certainly have our teachers have a chance to get that honor,” Williams said. “Just like any kind of honor, you want to give the folks who do something a chance to be honored for their work and their contribution.”
