Women’s basketball team plans to start workouts after spring break

According to Head Coach Scott Bowen, the women’s basketball team will begin spring workouts after spring break. These workouts are be for athletes not competing in a spring sport and are optional.

“I am looking forward to seeing kids work on their game and their athleticism in the off season,” Bowen said.

In addition, the women’s basketball team plans to have its season-ending banquet on March 13 in the Freshman Cafeteria.

On Feb. 12, the team lost 55-57 in the Sectional to Hamilton Southeastern. The team’s final 2013-2014 record was 8-12. Despite this loss, Bowen said that he was very proud of how the team competed during the game.

“We were down 10 points with two minutes to go, came back, and had one free throw to tie the game with 7 seconds to go. Unfortunately the ball did not go in, but our kids resolve and effort was fantastic,” Bowen said.

Varsity player and sophomore Celene Funke said that she was very disappointed in the Sectional loss, however, she is looking forward to next season.

“We were very disappointed,” Funke said, “But hopefully next season will be better. Next season we will work harder and hopefully get the results we want.”
