The CHS men’s basketball won both games in the IHSAA Regional to advance to the IHSAA Semistate on March 17.

In the morning game, Carmel faced Kokomo, a team that had defeated them 47-40 during the regular season. Carmel avenged their early-season loss by defeating Kokomo 52-48.

Senior Sam Curts kept Carmel close during the first quarter by scoring 14 points, and at the end of the first the game was tied at 16. The pace slowed down in the second quarter, and at halftime Kokomo led 22-21. Curts led the team with 17 first half points, and junior Michael Volovic scored the other four points. Carmel took the lead in the third quarter, and would hold onto this lead for the rest of the game. After three quarters Carmel led 35-31. Carmel made many free throws down the stretch and finished with a victory. Curts led all scorers with 22 points.

In the Regional Championship, Carmel faced Homestead. After a back and forth first half, Carmel took a 26-24 lead into halftime. Homestead continued to fight, and at the end of the third quarter Carmel clung to a 36-34 lead. In the fourth quarter, Volovic made multiple big shots including a three-point play late in the game to clinch the championship for Carmel with a 48-39 victory. Volovic led all scorers with 17 points in the game.

Carmel will compete in the IHSAA Semistate on March 17 at 6 p.m. against Elkhart Memorial. The game will be played at Huntington North.
