On Sept. 7, the women’s cross country team will be competing at the Laverne Gibson Course in Terre Haute for the State Preview Meet. Also competing will be Hamilton South Eastern, one of Carmel’s biggest rivals in the state for all sports. Carmel is currently ranked Number-1 in the state.

This year’s cross-country team is seeking the State Title in November, but their season does not end there. The team, hoping for a win at the Nike Cross Country Nationals (NXN), is ranked Number-2 in the nation. Head Coach Mark Ellington remarked via e-mail, “This year’s seniors that have been on the team for all four of their years have never lost a meet.”

One of these seniors varsity runner Gina Genco, who has been running at NXN for the past three years, said, “I have a lot of pressure for me to perform well because I’m in my fourth year and I have to finish strong.”

Results for this year have been a first place finish at the Carmel Classic Medley, a second place at Western Cross Country Invitational and a first place finish at the County Meet.
