On Oct. 17, the men’s soccer team will play Cathedral for the Regional championship at 7 p.m. at North Central. After losing to Cathedral last during Regional and this season, the players are more than ever determined to win.

“We know we’ve been beaten, which makes us work that much harder,” Evan Morris, varsity player and senior, said.

However, Head Coach Shane Schmidt warns against having too narrow of a mindset. “We need to keep the bigger picture in mind, which is winning the state championship not just winning one game in the state tournament,” he said.

While the team got off to a slow start at the beginning of the season, the players have practiced on their shooting and are walking into the tournament with confidence.

“This year we’ve had some trouble scoring,” Morris said. “But entering the tournament, we’ve started to figure things out and have hit our peak at the right time.”

Schmidt agrees, noting that since the 2006 team, which one the last men’s soccer state final, he hasn’t seen a CHS team play so well.

He said, “I honestly think that if we were to put that type of effort and commitment…and play every game from here on out starting with tonight’s game, I think we would be able to compete with anybody.
