Evan Morris, varsity player and senior, throws the ball into play in the game against Cathedral on Sept. 26. Carmel played Cathedral once against in Regional on Oct. 17 and loss in a shoot out.

The men’s soccer season ended on Oct. 17 when the team loss to Cathedral in Regional.

“We had a good season. It was a disappointing end…the way that it was. Especially in a game we didn’t deserve to lose,” Head Coach Shane Schmidt said.

According to Schmidt, the team out-shot Cathedral 16-1, although the game ended with a tie at 0-0;however, Carmel lost in the shoot out.

“We outplayed them. I think it’s easier to accept when you’re outplayed by somebody, and they’re a better team. But they were not the better team on the day,” he said.

While the loss was upsetting, Schmidt said that the players should not feel disappointed.

“I feel bad for the players and the seniors, (but) they have no reason to be disappointed or hold their heads down,” he said. “They played very well all season long and we had a great season. I’m proud of them.”

Evan Morris, varsity player and senior, agrees. “It was still a good season even though we didn’t win state. We won most of our game, so I think it was still a good season,” he said. Morris like many other seniors, varsity players will not be playing soccer in college.

As the season draws to an end, many of the players will be starting their club seasons, preparing for the next season when many of the junior varsity players will move in to varsity positions.

“There’s a lot of potential in our program. I think our JV team lost one game. And our freshman team lost one game.” Schmidt said. “You know there’s a ton of potential, and I look forward to the coming years.”
