The women’s track team will compete in the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference (MIC) tournament on May 2 at 6:00 p.m. The MIC tournament will take place at North Central.

The team will be facing competition from North Central, Warren Central, Hamilton Southeastern and other Indiana schools. According to Head Coach Tim Mylin, the team’s top competitor will be Warren Central.

“Based on the seeds which we have seen this week, it seems like it’ll be a battle between us and Number-1 ranked Warren Central. We’re ranked Number-2 in the state and Warren Central is ranked number one. It’s like a little state meet since the MIC conference is so strong,” he said.

Kelcy Welch, long distance runner and senior, will be running in the MIC tournament. However, Welch has not raced in two months due to injury.

“This race is going to be a rust-buster, getting back into racing. As far as preparing, I have done a few workouts but because I’m just coming back from my time off, like I haven’t been able to go really hard,” she said.

However, while Welch has been sitting out, the track team has been training on their speed during the race. Welch said, “The other girls they started to do speed workouts as opposed to longer threshold workouts just to get their speed going for the race on Friday.”
