Carmel Electric Ensemble to have first performance of year

The Electric Ensemble is getting ready for a big year ahead of them, starting with their first concert at the Palladium on Nov. 1.

According to Yi Cui, senior and co-president of the ensemble, the Palladium concert as well as several late start performances at the end of the first semester will culminate to the ensemble’s biggest concert right before spring break.

The program, which centers around pop, jazz, and rock allows “students a creative outlet and I think it’s also helped bring orchestra to a broader audience because the students play for the student body… it gives a cooler image, an image that we are having fun, no matter what we are doing and it also advertises the orchestra,” says Mrs. Elisabeth Ohly-Davis, orchestra teacher and sponsor. Conducted by the 15 members in the club, they work together to arrange the music and practice every Monday after school.

In comparison to last year, Cui says, “we are a lot better in terms of improvisation and that we are less reliant on sheet music. So far everything has been really nice, so I’m looking forward this year.”
