The Accents Prepare for Upcoming Cabaret

On Sunday, Oct. 25, the Accents will be performing, with the Ambassadors, in their first CHS Cabaret. The Cabaret will be from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Freshman Cafeteria and Greyhound Station. Anyone is welcome to come, and the concert will be having many types of entertainment available.

According to director of choirs Kathrine Kouns, the name of the concert is “A Royal Ball.” Pieces featured in this program will relate to kings, queens, princes, princesses and the royalty of music, such as Elvis, “the King of Rock and Roll.” The Ambassadors and the Accents will be performing three group numbers: Lorde song “Royals”, an Aretha Franklin medley and “Music in My Mother’s House.” Leadership council member and senior Gracie Hansen is especially looking forward to her fellow choir members’ performances and her solo of “I will Always Love You” by Dolly Parton, “the Queen of Country.” “I’m excited to see my classmates and my friends and the Ambassadors perform in a way that they’re (comfortable) because they get to choose their own songs,” Hansen said.

This year will be the first year the Accents perform in the CHS Cabaret. According to Kouns and Hansen, there are two main goals for the Cabaret. “One is fundraising. I know it kind of sounds terrible to make it all about money, but that’s the primary purpose for (the concert): obviously, just to generate some serious income for the program. Those are the groups that really are going to travel the most in the spring and going to competitions, so they are raising money to offset the cost of their competitions,” Kouns said. There will be food and drinks available throughout the event, providing a dinner theatre atmosphere, and a silent auction will be taking place to help with funding.

The other goal is to show and present the talent in the two groups, especially for the Accents because this is their first year. “The Cabaret is another opportunity for community members to support us and really see what we’re about, and what makes us so special. We all want to be the best we can and that will in turn help the group to be better and it’ll just end up being a very talented kind of night,” Hansen said.

The Accents are excited for the event and hope the turnout will be great. “We are more than welcome to see your smiling faces out in the audience, even if your not smiling because your mom dragged to the concert, but we love performing and making friends so if anyone is looking for a fun night then come out to see us,” Hansen said.
