Dana Meinen, Key Club member and junior, listens to announcements at a club meeting. For this semester, the club plans to increase meeting attendance by offering more volunteer opportunities.

Key Club will hold its first meeting on Jan. 14 in the Freshman Cafeteria at 7:15 a.m. For students who can’t attend, there will be a second meeting at 3:30 p.m. also in the Freshman Cafeteria.

According to sponsor Katie Kelly, club officers have recorded volunteer hours from the last semester, and if any returning members find a discrepancy between what was recorded and what they turned in, students should contact[email protected]. Kelly also said students who volunteered over break should record those hours and turn them in at rooms E229 or E224 as soon as possible.

Key Club is looking to incorporate more service projects at its meetings this semester.

Ben Sun, Key Club member and junior, said in previous semesters, such service projects included writing cards to senior citizens and making blankets for people in hospitals.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing what the officers have in store this semester,” he said. “When we get to do something at the meetings, you just feel more engaged and in tune with the community.”

Kelly said, “Some of our new goals are to continue to maintain interest in our membership. We have to make sure each meeting is meaningful, so that people aren’t just coming to pick up a flyer and leave. Then, they feel like contributing to a service project means that they are helping out. That will continue to bring more people to meetings.”
