On Feb. 17, the Academic Competition Team (A.C.T.), formerly known as Brain Game, will compete in their second round of the elimination-style Brain Game tournament. According to Sameer Leley, A.C.T member and senior, the team is preparing hard to take on the Westfield High School team.

“I think our best category is either math, science or history, but we need to work on our trivia for literature the most (for the upcoming match),” Leley said.
Recently, the team competed in the White River Academic League (WRAL) tournament, where, in a set of seven games, the team won five and lost two. Both of these losses came from matches against Zionsville High School. According to A.C.T. coach John Shearin, the team still ranked quite high, in 9th place out of 34 schools.
Shearin said, right now, the team’s biggest downfall is the lack of regular players available to compete. In fact, it has actually prevented them from being able to attend certain competitions.
“I need more players that I can count on being there every time,” Shearin said. “I’ve got so many players who are involved in robotics or performing arts and stuff that, on any given match, I never know how many players will be there. For planning purposes, it would be so nice if I had a group I could count on.”
Leley said that all students should consider being part of the team next year, since he enjoys it so much.
Leley said, “It’s a chance to do something that is fun because you are competing using something interesting like trivia knowledge.”
