Due to last minute scheduling conflicts, the students were not able to meet yet, according to Virginia Kundrat, Science Bowl coach and club sponsor. “Right now, [members] are practicing among themselves as individual teams and then the teams will be working against other teams to practice and brush up on their skills,” Kundrat said.

The Science Bowl team has yet to resume full team practices, according to Brendan Yap, Science Bowl President and Team Captain. “We’ve only had cross-team practices at school so far but I’m pretty sure that individual members in other teams are doing their own practices and meeting by themselves,” Yap said.

Yap said that members have decided that the CHS will not be hosting the Carmel Invitational this year. “Instead, we’re going to practice and study for upcoming instate competitions rather than focus on hosting [the Carmel Invitational] this year. Science Bowl is really self-motivated and you got to work a lot by yourself so it’s not uncommon for teams to meet up to practice rather than having formal meetings to practice together,” Yap said.

Kundrat said the Science Bowl Regionals will be hosted in March and will determine if CHS will be going to the State competition.

“March is a difficult time for a lot of the members because that’s when a lot of our other competitions like AMC and other science Olympiads are being held so we’re going cramming in all our studying in right now,” Yap said.
