According to Hope Baugh, young adult services manager, this is the sixth year the Carmel Clay Public Library has invited the community to participate in Carmel Clay Reads, a reading program in which the library encourages the entire community to read a certain book and discuss it with others. The library announced this year’s title, The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, on Feb. 18. The program will run until March 29 and will include discussions and other programs held at the CCPL.
Baugh said interested students could attend the next meeting of the Book Club at this school, which will be on March 20 during SRT in media classrooms 3 and 4.
J.C. Pankratz, co-chair of the Book Club Committee and senior, said the Book Club chose to discuss The Book Thief at its next meeting to promote participation in Carmel Clay Reads. “It’s an opportunity to get more people involved because it’s a community read,” she said. “Having a book discussion here will encourage people to go to the discussions (at the public library.)”
