According to Nancy Heck, Carmel director of community relations and economic development, the Arts and Design District will host many fall celebrations in the coming weeks.

“I’m most looking forward to the fall holidays and the holiday season because that’s where people and their families can get away from their busy lives and enjoy the weather, their city, and all the fun events we’re holding,” she said.

Heck said she is especially excited for Highgarden Halloween on Oct. 28. From 6 to 8 p.m., the shops on Main Street will provide candy and dog treats for trick-or-treaters. At 7:30 p.m., Highgarden Real Estate will hold a pet costume contest, and then one for both kids and adults at 7:45 p.m. Costume judging will take place at 110 W. Main St.

“We did something similar last year, and the best part of the Halloween celebration in downtown Carmel is that it’s a safe place for kids to trick-or-treat where parents don’t have to worry,” Heck said. “Just go, because the kids and dogs in costume are off-the-charts cute.”

Many Carmel shops are also preparing for fall holidays, such as ReStyled, the furniture and clothing store on 21 S. Rangeline Road. Manager Susan Jabaras said the store plans to focus more on selling fall merchandise, such as sweaters and furniture painting.

Additionally, Ryan Woock, Carmel Mayor’s Youth Council (CMYC) president and senior, said the CMYC will help run this year’s PumpkinFest on Oct. 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. at 2 Civic Square. The festival will include hayrides, pumpkin decorating and a costume parade. Admission is free.
