Riley Judson, AVID student and junior, completes her homework during SRT. She said, “AVID helps me organize and it helps me really know how to actually study. It also helps me to know the right things to prepare for class. These are things that are really helpful when I am studying.”
With college acceptance letters coming in to students, it is important for students to correctly learn how to write college applications and scholarship essays. According to AVID coordinator Jamie Newcomer, an important part of every year is to make sure that students know how to apply to colleges.
“One of the more important parts of getting into a college are the applications. If students don’t write a good essay, but they have good grades and good scores, it could affect whether they get into a college or not, so it’s really important that AVID focuses on teaching students how to apply for scholarships and to colleges,” she said.
Riley Judson, AVID student and junior, said she believes that learning how to apply to colleges is a very important tool.
“Right now we are learning about how to apply to colleges and about scholarships. I think a lot of students need to know these things and also be able to prepare for essays and arguments. I think that learning about these things will help me not only when I apply to college, but maybe even when I apply for jobs,” she said. By Pranav Jothirajah
