National Art Honors Society to wrap up mural painting

Members of the National Art Honors Society (NAHS) will continue to wrap up their mural painting at the Monon Center on 116th Street. NAHS sponsor Jennifer Bubp said the next step to completing this process is painting. Bubp said NAHS members have been preparing for paint by getting custom stencils and placing them in the tunnel.

“We are painting a mural on the Monon Trail underneath 116th Street. The mural will be inspired by nature including plants and wildlife native to Indiana. The mural will finish in the next few weeks,” Bubp said.

Florence Hargitt, NAHS president and senior, said she is excited that the project is slowly wrapping up. Hargitt also said she is eager to see how the public reacts to the tunnel and hopes the mural will be visited often when done.

“I think it’ll be a very community-oriented project, during the process and when it is finished,” she said. By Miah Powell
