Model U.N. delegates earn awards

On March 18 and March 19 the Model U.N. team attended the 58th annual conference at IUPUI. According to Model U.N. sponsor Tracy Hadden, several outstanding students received awards for Best Delegate and Best Delegation for their efforts at the meeting, where schools across central Indiana met to debate international issues as U.N. ambassadors.

“There were nine different committees,” Hadden said. “Each committee gave two recognition awards, one for best single delegate of the committee and one for the best delegation. Two delegates represented each country or delegation.”

According to Hadden, several students were honored with awards. Junior Mackenzie Madison won Best Delegate for the World Food Program. Senior Claire Morgan won Best Delegate for the Security Council. Junior Steven Chen won Best Delegate for the United Nations Development Program. Seniors Rosemary Boeglin and Tim Chai won Best Delegation for the United Nations Human Rights Council. Seniors Hera Ashraf and Sarah Sheafer won Best Delegation for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Juniors Afra Hussain and Radhika Agarwal won Best Delegation for the World Health Organization.

According to Hadden the Model U.N. team will not meet again this school year.

“This has been an exciting experience,” Rossie Nho, sophomore and a head delegate, said. “I’ve really learned a lot, and it’s so different from normal history.” By Victor Xu <[email protected]>
