Men’s tennis chases State title

By: Jesse Jordan <[email protected]>

Lately the tennis players at CHS have had an obstacle in their path to success. Their home courts have been under construction since the middle of the summer. Senior Nick Candis, explained, “Right now they are making a tennis house for to go along with the courts, they had already finished the courts by the time the first or second week of school rolled around.”

A tennis house is a place where the tennis players can go and relax before and after their matches. It is one of the parts of the new tennis court setup. During the summer, the tennis players practiced at the courts at Clay Middle School. The courts were finished before any of the seasons games got underway, so the team still kept their ‘home field advantage’.

The men’s tennis team has had a nice year so far with ten wins and only two losses. During the recent Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference Championship the team came in third out of the eight schools that competed. “It was a tough day,” Head Coach Mike Bostic said. “We played three matches this week and I think it took it’s toll on our kids.  We definitely could have played better tennis, but there were some positives.  Eric Hudson made it to the finals and played tough, and Eric Murphy had a great win against a quality Center Grove opponent.”

This is Candis’s first year playing tennis for CHS. He said that the team has a good chance of going along way. “Even though I am not the best player I know that we have a lot of strong players who can take us all the way,” he said.

With so many great players, and the record that the team has now, members on the team do plan to go far. Sectional for the team are this afternoon at 4:15 p.m., tomorrow at 4:15 p.m. and Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the Todd Witsken Tennis Center.
