Sophomores Alex Mi and Shambavi Muralidaren complete worksheets during their G4 Human Body Systems class on Nov. 7 in Alyssa Ament’s room. They completed their classwork and continued to review for their upcoming test. “I’m studying early to make sure I get a good grade on the test, I hope it works out,” Mi said.

Students go to the JA Career Ignite fair in the Fieldhouse gym to learn about job opportunities and career paths for the future. Students walked around and interviewed the volunteers about what their job is like.

Sophomore Priela Shrestha adds yellow clay, which represents the ulnar nerve, to her manikin in her Human Body Systems Class on Oct. 18. Students just completed their first unit test and are now working on understanding the central nervous system.

Senior Gideon Goldstein explains basic debate etiquette to novice debaters in the media center on Oct. 16. The unauthorized use of electronics during the Carmel Debate intrasquad meet, which took place on Sept. 28, prompted Goldstein to present the slideshow. Goldstein said, “Another team lied about us at State last year, and we got disqualified. Please follow etiquette so other schools have nothing to complain about.”

On Oct. 14, sophomore Angela Yu works hard at her desk in her Chinese class. Yu said, “Chinese is one of my favorite classes. I love learning about the language and culture.”

They successfully completed their practice and continued to review for the upcoming test. “I love learning and collaborating in Spanish class with my friends,” Lopez said.

Sophomore Ruth Ahn gives her first speech of the debate round on Oct. 1 in the CHS library. The debate club was preparing for their first tournament of the year at Ben Davis High School. “Through debate, I’ve been able to work with others to argue for a certain cause and gain confidence when speaking,” Ahn said.

Junior Jasmine Choi fills out the attendance form at the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) meeting on Oct. 21 in the Freshman Cafeteria. The meeting consisted of workshops for students to learn about different events.

On Oct. 23, a group of students in Political Discussions Club talk about AI in student work during their meeting. The club met once a week to take a deep dive on national security and other wide variety of ideas in the 21st century.

Sophomore Vedika Vyas works on her computer on Nov. 6. in the freshmen cafeteria. She reviewed notes in preparation for a physics test. “I am really worried for my physics test,” Vyas said.

Junior Varad Tanksale gets ready to bat at the Carmel Cricket Club’s Practice. The Cricket Club aims to bring the spirit of cricket to our high school and combine different cultures into one free space. “Cricket is a vibrant part of people’s lives all around the world and my partner and I wanted to bring this exciting game to our Carmel High School community,” Tanksale said.

Gao often met up with her friends before school starts and after it ends. “I like to meet my friends in the commons because it’s a very convenient place to meet, especially [with] those that I don’t share any classes with,” said Gao.

Sophomore Dylan Heagy and his friends lift up the pole after a victorious match against his opposing friends. The club gathered for a lively evening of games, where members showed off their pickleball skills.

On Oct. 31, junior Ryan Sladek studies outside his classroom in preparation for upcoming classes. Sladek said, “I like to review my homework in the morning while waiting outside my classroom because it gives me something to do rather than sitting around and doing nothing.”

Senior Cole Koski, one of the new captains of the Carmel Bowling team, gets ready for a practice on Oct. 30. Koski said, “This years team is very positive and I can’t wait to see what the team can do this season.”

Juniors Nicolas Palacios (left) and Alex Widjaja practice their Duo Interpretation speech for a warm-up exercise at speech practice. The Carmel Speech and Debate club focuses on empowering students to gain confidence by improving their public speaking skills through various Debate, Public Address, and Interpretation events. “I joined speech because I’m not really confident in my public speaking skills, and I’m excited to use what I learned at my first meet,” Palacios said.

Members of the club got together to celebrate the mid-autumn festival. “My favorite part about this meeting was getting to meet new people and to get to make fun crafts and do fun activities with friends and getting to learn about other cultures,” said Widjaja.

On Sept. 6, in the Carmel Café, senior Aadit Bothra squeezes maple syrup into the blender while making a frappuccino. Bothra said, “Working in the café is a blast; you get a lot of free drinks.”

Varsity tennis player and junior Wesley Worobel practices his serving styles at the CHS tennis courts after school on Sept. 5. The team finished practice with new techniques for their next match.

Sophomore Shanmukha Polu watches a presentation during the Carmel Giving Hope callout meeting on Sept. 4. The club has bi-monthly meetings after school, on late-start Wednesdays.

Sophomores Madeleine Sorg and Hailey Todd conduct a science experiment about water electrolysis during their honors chemistry class on Sept. 3 in Jeremy Horner’s room. They completed the experiment and learned how electricity is used to split water into oxygen and hydrogen. “I had a lot of fun doing this, it got kind of messy though,” Todd said.

Sophomore Quinn Sullivan serves the pickleball after winning his third consecutive round at the Pickle Pong club in the CHS Field House gym on Aug. 30. Pickle Pong, a recently established club that featured the sports of pickleball and ping pong. “My friend Neil convinced me to join this club so I could be his partner when playing doubles,” Sullivan said.

Freshmen Riya Chandra (left), Shravya Pillutla (middle) and Arna Jatla (right) studies DNA structure in principles of biomedical science (PLTW). The PLTW class focused on hands-on learning, and allowed students to explore biological concepts through group activities. “I like that [Conley] lets us watch videos and creates fun ways to explain concepts, and I like that he lets us work with our friends,” Jatla said.

Seniors Asuka Hashimoto and Kaitlyn Yang studies hard for their AP classes at the Carmel High School library on Aug. 28. Hashimoto and Yang came to the library during their free block for their TCP schedule. “Usually when I have a free period I just go to the library and study with my friends,” says Yang.

Junior Anthony Coellner celebrating for a touchdown scored against Homestead at the Carmel Stadium on Aug. 23. Anthony started on the Carmel Varsity football team as a quarterback, leading the Hounds to sectionals last year.

Kheiri worked on his slideshow over the weekend to present to over 32 audience members on Tuesday. “A framework is the lense you use to view the debate,” Kheiri said.

On Sept. 11, CHS senior Sophie Mock is working on her golf game as the team prepares for sectionals in two weeks. Sophie said “I prepare for sectionals and state by focusing on my short game.”

Senior Teagan McDonald works on his computer in cybersecurity on Sept. 25. Students worked on a presentation about the different types of malware during the class period. McDonald said, “I think that cybersecurity is important as it teaches young people, who are most vulnerable to cyberattacks, how to stay safe online.”

Sophomore Samee Sher works on his computer in cybersecurity on Sept. 23. Sher said, “Cybersecurity and how our data is treated online is very interesting to me.”

On Sept. 19, senior Caroline Petry, CHTV’s Live Events Director plans the live stream for CHTV’s homecoming game broadcast for Sept. 20. Petry said “It’s pretty intense trying to plan for every little thing especially when trying to get everyone on the same page for the upcoming event.”

On Sept. 16, senior Alivia Conz eats lunch dressed as a minion for homecoming’s spirit day. Homecoming week’s dress-up days included minions, bikers vs. surfers, celebrity day, decades day, and blue and gold. Conz said, “Since this is my last year I wanted to go all out.”

Fine artist Cheryl Lankhaar paints in front of Anthony’s Chophouse on Sept. 13 for Carmel on Canvas. Carmel on Canvas was a plein-air painting event hosted yearly by Carmel. The event was held for two days, Sept.13 and Sept. 14.

Sophomore Sophia Coburn practices working on a Ti-Nspire calculator for her AP Pre-Calculus Class on Sept.12. Students are learning how to graph the 12 parent functions such as cube, square, natural logarithm, greatest integer, and absolute value. They also focused on finding each function’s domain and range interval notations.
