On Feb. 4 in the Carmel Public Library Meeting Room B, sophomore Zhiyin Li helps tape Chinese blessings on the window in preparation for Chinese New Year Celebration. This celebration was organized by the CHS National Chinese Honor Society. Li said, “I am really glad that our school can appreciate and spread awareness about Chinese culture through events like this.”

The bracelets were made for the Indiana Center for Prevention of Youth Abuse & Suicide. At every meeting, Key Club members have performed different service projects, such as crafting blankets and writing teacher appreciation cards, to aid charitable causes.

Junior Sanvi Allu will examine the Carmel Cafe’s Valentine’s Day menu on Feb. 13 to prepare for the holiday. The drinks available are Chocolate Heart and Cupids Bow-ba. “I go to the Cafe sometimes during passing periods,” Allu said. “But with these drinks, I will definitely have to go.”

French students caroled to three classrooms, one of the songs being “Entre le bœuf et l’âne gris” which directly translates to between the ox and the grey donkey based off of the presence of the two animals at the birth of Jesus additionally, they sang “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” a Christmas classic.

Maxwell Goatee, senior and president of the CHS debate team, delivers announcements to a large crowd of debaters in the media center on Jan. 7. With the State tournament approaching in three weeks, Goatee encouraged all members to keep showing up to practice to improve their debate skills. Goatee said, “Regardless of whether or not you make State roster, we are extremely proud of everyone for your amazing performance at all our regular season tournaments.”

On Jan. 17, junior Sabrina Ledwith, a Carmel swimmer, jumps in the pool for morning practice. “It’s always best to have a good attitude for practices, especially for morning practices. It’s best when everyone’s energy is up because it can be hard to be in a good mood so early in the morning,” said Ledwith.

Senior Michael Fortuna and fellow classmates read a play for their IB Literature class on Jan. 16th. In the past semester, IB Literature focused on many different types of literature and authors from across the world.

Sahu qualified for the international DECA competition his freshman year and stressed that a good exam score was one of the key reasons behind his success. Sahu said, “Before districts, make sure you do the online practice test because that is the only exam that is online.”

Sophomore Brenna Hunter works on sculpting a ugly Christmas sweater out of polymer clay to make as a charm in her Jewelry 1 class on Nov. 18. Hunter said, ” I enjoy the class as it gives me time to relax and just take a break in between my other classes.”

Senior David Jiang and Kiwanis advisor Gayle Webb discuss the TopGolf Fundraiser event as a way to get group hours for Key Club during their late start morning meeting on March 5. The TopGolf Fundraiser will take place March 9, 2 to 4 p.m. at the Fishers location where all proceeds go towards Kiwanis activities like sponsoring Key Club. The fundraising event will have an entry fee of $75 per person for two hours of golf play time, unlimited soft drinks, and a fajita bar.
