Humans of CHS 21-22
Freshman Ian Slate
My favorite superhero is Ghost Rider, by far, because he just looks so cool and he’s also been my favorite superhero as a kid, and as a teenager now. First off, it’s the character design, and I like how he rides in a bicycle, sometimes, a Hellcat Charger, and he’s just a really cool character. His backstory is really cool because he starts out losing a lot.
Junior Hyrum Humiston
I like the old Batman, the original TV series Batman, because he was comical, it was old, and it was also funny because of the old setting and the CGI wasn’t very good, so it made it more funny because you could definitely tell it wasn’t real, and the family was more funny and I like the manor. He has good skills, and he didn’t have any powers which made him cooler, and the plots were very interesting.
Freshman Ella Odom
My favorite superhero is Black Panther, as he kind of reminds me of the Lion King but more modernized, as he was one of the main black superheros that were in the Avengers, and it is a turning point nowadays as Marvel characters were not African. I think the main thing is that he’s so calm and not as energetic so he’s more chill about things.
Senior Chris Carmichael
My favorite superhero is Black Widow. I’ve loved her since I was a little kid, I think she stands for a really cool message of female empowerment and I love that she carries her own really well. I really resonate with her relationship with her sister, as I have an older sister that I’m very close with so it’s cool to see that relationship.
Sophomore Aila McKeown
My favorite superhero is probably Black Widow since she’s a strong female character and I think in this day and age it’s really cool to see strong female characters documented in television. She’s just strong, she’s able to hold her own and that’s super cool. She fits in very well and I think her solo movie made her story really cool about how she overcame all the past trauma and turned it...
Freshman Sofia Dagvadorj
“One time I was shopping at World Market, and they had this ‘Find a golden sleigh, and you can get a free coupon for World Market,’ and my dad said ‘let’s leave, we’re never going to find this golden sleigh thing,’ and finally, when we were right about to leave we found the golden sleigh, and we took it up to the cashier, and it was 50 dollars of just free stuff."
Sophomore Samuel Birany
“A couple years ago I went on vacation to Hilton Head Island, and they have a little bike area that a lot of people go to ride their bikes around. Me and my family went there for two straight days, and both days we found one hundred dollar bills that we picked up since no one was around.”
Junior Adare Haas
“One time, my cousin, he was playing at a soccer game, and there was a storm, and a lightning bolt struck, which was a few feet from where he was standing, but he was fine. It was pretty crazy, but he was completely okay so it was really lucky.”
Senior Akash Bhowmik
“So I think it was when I met this guy, and he had a mullet, so I felt he was a very curious person. I went to meet him, and apparently, he was a grandmaster at chess, and so I found out that he was the first grandmaster I’ve ever met. He signed my chessboard, which is very cool.”
Sophomore Gunner Spidell
“I’m going to be honest, I’ll probably be alone. I’m going to relax, chill [with my friends.] I don’t have a girlfriend or anything, so I’m probably going to be at home, or at school, whatever it is with my friend, spend time with them, have fun. I’d probably play video games, I enjoy Valorant, Fortnite, League of Legends, stuff like that”
Freshman Camryn Love
“I’d probably hang out with my friends, I would go to dinner with them, and probably, — I don’t know, just a restaurant. Probably a nice restaurant, like Harry and Izzy’s or something like that, for fun. After we’d hang out probably but before that we’d get dressed up and go to Harry and Izzy’s or somewhere nice.”
Freshman Briggs Griffin
“I don’t have any plans yet, but I’d probably go to dinner with some of my friends. I might go to Bru Burger with three of my closest friends. [After that,] we’d probably just hang out. Back at my house, we can just watch a movie or something. Not sure [what exact movie] we’d watch yet, whatever we find on Netflix.”
Sophomore Flora McMullen
“I’d probably go on a date with my boyfriend, like, we might go to the mall and have lunch together and go around and shop. Not really any [specific restaurants or shops.] Maybe we’d go to the movies, not any specific one, I don’t know what’s out right now.”
Junior Kenneth Bruntlett
“Currently I’m going to go to dinner with my girlfriend and we’re going to celebrate, then I’ll go home. We’re going to go to Texas Roadhouse and we’re both going to get steaks, and then I’ll bring her a big box of chocolates and a big teddy bear. Dark chocolate, milk chocolate, you know. I think we’re going to Texas Roadhouse, and since it’s a Monday and we have school, we can’t ...
Senior Grace Miller
“It’s my sister’s birthday, so we're celebrating her birthday and for romantic things, nothing. We’ll go out to dinner, open presents, the usual, like anything about celebrating birthdays, like cake. [As for restaurants,] wherever she wants to go. It’s never the same. [If my sister’s birthday wasn’t on Valentine’s Day,] I’d probably hang out with friends, we’d do something fun if we...
Senior Dhillon Parikshak
“I don’t really have any plans yet, but hopefully that changes soon. I’ll probably do something with my girlfriend. I’ll probably take my girlfriend out to dinner or something like that, get her flowers, chocolate maybe. I don’t know [any specific restaurant] yet, probably sushi or something — sushi’s always a good call I feel like. We might go out to get ice cream, and depending if it'...
Sophomore Cayman Stowe
The best gift is, well, the worst gift was socks, I don’t want socks. The best gift, I don’t know, (is) a dog.
Junior Owen Bruner
The best gift I’ve gotten, it’d probably have to be a guitar when I was like six, (it’s) best thing I’ve ever gotten, (and) it’s treated me well. The worst gift I’ve ever gotten was probably underwear on my birthday. It’s very thoughtful, but like, you know.
Senior Remi Shirayanagi and Junior Audrey Wong
The best gift I’ve ever gotten is a wii. I think just because it was fancy and I used it a lot it was really fun to play with. I am not sure what the worst gift I’ve gotten is. I’d say the worst gift is more when I don’t get a gift because I like most things (Shirayanagi left). My favorite gift is probably from my friend in middle school. She got me this really big photo album with all of...
Freshman Vincent Chia
My worst gift was a shirt that was way too large and like went down to my knees. The best gift I’ve gotten was a laptop.
Jeanette James, faculty
My favorite memory from my childhood (Thanksgiving) was at my Grandma’s house with my family and Aunts, Uncles and cousins. After we had eaten our dinner and the kitchen was cleaned up, the men would all go in the living room and watch football and the women and children would drive to Downtown Akron, Ohio and walk around outside of all the big Department stores and admire all the Christmas an...
Q and A with Veronica Holford
What are you proud of in your life? “I am proud of a lot of things, but I’m proud of my son and everything that he has accomplished with my help as a single mom.” What motivates you? “My son motivates me a lot to make sure that I’m working and doing my best so that he can get the best, and now the baby.” What makes you the happiest? “I am the happiest when I am helpi...
Sophomore Gigi Welp
My best Halloween tradition is trading candy with my friends after trick or treating. I’ve been doing this since I was about 7 years old and my friends and I have never missed a year.
Dave Romano, faculty
(My favorite house to trick or treat at when I was a kid) was a house that the adult always dressed up in a costume and the entire entryway was all decorated with lights, cobwebs and spooky music.
Aadit Bothra, Freshman
"The new dismissal times definitely impacted me in many ways, especially after the changes to the bus and carpool lines. It got me home earlier which helped me get more things done, but I feel like it’s a lot harder for the carpool situation because students have to go through a harder time just walking down the trail every single day, and I think it’s a real struggle for them, but it’s definitely...
Sophomore Logan Obrique
"It’s nicer that I get to sleep in more, but the ridiculously late end time has messed up my sleeping schedule anyway, even more than it already was. It’s hard for me to get my work done."
Senior Zoey Foley
"The new end time has not been great for me. I’m in marching band and now rehearsal doesn’t end until 7 and I get home at 7:30 so I can’t start on my homework until 8 and I still have to get up by 8 to go to morning rehearsal at 9. It doesn’t help me at all."
Freshman Jessica Ding
"I’m not sure that it’s been totally positive. These days I’ve been getting home later and later, and when I get home I barely have enough time to eat dinner before I have to go to do my extracurriculars or get started on homework. I do like sleeping in in the mornings, but I’d like to get home earlier."
Sophomore Katie Rizzuto
"This year I get to wake up later, which is nice because sleeping in kind of helps; however, I also get a later start on my homework which means I go to bed later because after-school activities and sports and anything else like that piles up when you get home at 4:30, if that. I feel it’s an overall negative impact, it feels like my day is completely gone when I get out of school, and there is alm...
