Carmel advanced two sophomore wrestlers, Ben Krege and Karl Wilhelm, to the Semistate match where they both lost in the first round. Wilhelm and Krege were the only two wrestlers representing Carmel in Semistate in New Castle on Feb. 11.
Assistant Coach Jeremy Stacy was satisfied with the team because of their age compared to other high schools.
Stacy said, “The season was a success in terms of we were young and got a lot of experience for young guys. (It was) a disappointment because we didn’t have one State qualifier.”
Krege also was content with his season being a sophomore. “I accomplished my goal,” Krege said. “I want to go to State at Banker’s Life Fieldhouse next year.”
The coaches anticipate an older and more mature team for next year, according to Stacy.
