The HiLite newspaper’s online food blog is back, with a new name, new management and basically the same aim – we love food. “We” are managing editor Hafsa Razi and entertainment reporter Anni Zhang, co-runners of The SCOOP. Like we said, our mission is simple. We’re poor, untrained and unequipped chefs, so we’re all about food that’s simple, fun, cheap and, of course, delicious.
First on the list – ice cream.
Who said making ice cream needs to be a hassle? This recipe for a simple and deliciously decadent banana and Nutella ice requires only two ingredients; you guessed it! Banana and Nutella. No ice cream makers or over complicated devices are needed. Just a good old fashioned blender and freezer will create this smooth and creamy ice cream with barely any effort. Although the wait time for your ice cream to freeze is about an hour, the recipe itself takes just a few minutes to put together; and let me promise you, it is well worth the wait.
(In case you’re wondering, we aren’t only going to make ice cream here at The SCOOP. But we’re so proud of this play on words, we just had to milk it).
Total cook time: 5 hrs
Ingredients:
4 large bananas
5 tbsp. Nutella
Directions:
1. Place the 4 bananas inside the freezer and freeze for 4-8 hours or until frozen.
2. Take them out and chop into 1 inch pieces.
3. In a blender, blend the bananas and 5 tbsp. of Nutella together on high speed for 2 minutes.
4. If you enjoy your ice cream a bit runny, you can eat this as soft serve right away. If not, then place the mixture inside a tray and leave in the freezer for one hour.
5. The last step is to scoop up your ice cream and enjoy!
While I had some concern about this ice cream tasting of over-powering Nutella, it turned out to be a delicious banana ice cream enhanced with Nutella flavors. I hope you will give this recipe a try.
Stay tuned to The SCOOP for more food adventures!
