After taking a three-week break for the winter, cafeteria manager Theresa Quade came back to help make more changes to the CHS’s menu. Ever since last year, CHS has been trying to help students become healthier and develop a healthier diet. This includes selling more whole grain breads and baked chips. CHS recently stopped selling croutons with the salads, replacing them with whole wheat bread sticks.
“We keep striving to find things you kids really enjoy,” Quade said. Quade said she works hard to find tasty meals that still follow government guidelines, and the croutons were not following those guidelines anymore, so the cafeteria workers decided to remove them from the menu.
Freshman Nicole Coffman said she has mixed feelings about the changes. “I’m disappointed that the croutons are gone, because they were really good,” Coffman said. “But, the bread sticks are good too. Plus, (they are) healthier.”
Quade said she doubts that she will make many more changes this year, but she said she also believes that the school will continue to improve the menu as healthier options are found.
