Greenade: The Ultimate Green Juice
Did you know, the typical lemonade recipe calls for 25 grams of sugar per 8 fl. oz. serving? Shockingly, that is the same amount of sugar the World Health Organization recommends for your daily caloric intake. If you are like me, I drink much more than just one serving of lemonade in a sitting, and in addition to that I will have a full-course meal that will have even more sugar in it. The moral of the story is you should take a few extra minutes of your day to make your own lemonade, but with a healthier twist: with fruits and veggies. The ingredients in this green juice provide a great source of vitamin A and C, which help you stay awake and alert through the day. In addition, the drink already tastes great without sugar, however you can add some honey in it to give it some natural sweetener. Start your day off with this dish and you are guaranteed a fresher morning! Enjoy, all.
Total cooking time: 10 minutes
Serving size: 4 cups
Ingredients:
1 lemon
2 cups spinach
1 granny smith apple
1/2 pear
1/2 cucumber
1 tbsp. honey or agave nectar
Directions:
1. Wash and dry all the ingredients well and peal the lemon. Cut the cucumber, pear, lemon and apple into large chunks. If you have a really good blender, you don’t need to cut it up too finely, but if you don’t, then help it out by cutting them smaller.
2. Set your blender to liquefy and start the thing up! For a smooth consistency, let the mixture blend for one to two minutes.
3. Once it is done, taste the juice for sweetness. Add in the honey and additional pear if you want it to be sweeter.
4. Pour the juice out into a cup or canteen or whatever you drink juice out of and serve! Enjoy with a lemon wedge for added aesthetics.
